It is estimated that approximately 28 million Americans have a hearing disorder. Further, the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders states that hearing disorders are a higher rate among men. Additionally, hearing disorders among children is on the rise; 2 to 3 of 1,000 children in the United States is either hard-of-hearing or deaf. A hearing disorder, whether it is an impairment or deafness, is the full or partial inability to understand sounds.
Treatment Options
There are various treatment options for those with hearing disorders. The most commonly used device to treat hearing disorders is the hearing aid. Another treatment option for a hearing disorder is a cochlear implant. In addition, hearing dogs, the Internet, and Video Remote Interpreting are all viable treatments for a person with hearing loss or deafness
